These tools can be used alone, or in combination, according to the needs of the situation. For example, the evaluation of a technology commercialization program might first use the Impact Assessment Framework for an overall understanding of all the impacts, and then use the Economic Impact Model for a more detailed understanding of the specific economic impacts. The Group Decision Support System would facilitate information collection for both the framework and model, and the Uncertainty Analysis Process would support quantification of expert opinion for the Model. In a different situation, strategic planning for a research group might employ only the HAL Group Decision Support System.
