8172 Evaluation of Daily Shift Inspection Presence

The 2009 United States Department of Agriculture, Food Safety and Inspection Service audit found that the frequency of inspections in Canada’s federally registered meat processing plants was not equivalent to the frequency of inspections in American Plants. Canada subsequently adopted daily shift inspection presence in order to meet U.S. standards for import of processed meat products.  HAL is evaluating the Daily Shift Inspection Presence (DSIP) initiative in order to inform its potential renewal.

8171 Thirty Metre Telescope Investment Options Study

HAL is assisting the National Research Council analyze three options for Canadian investment in the Thirty Metre Telescope (TMT), an international effort to build the world’s largest optical telescope.  HAL is constructing an economic model to better illustrate economic returns to Canada based on the time of entry into the project and the size of the share.

8164 Community Employment Pilots

On behalf of the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, HAL is undertaking a Community Employment Pilots project to determine the feasibility of using geo-spatial databases to map economic, cultural, social, health and other determinants of unemployment in four communities: Cornwall, Hamilton, Timmins and Toronto’s St. James Town. The pilot project will rely on a Community Advisory Team in each of the four pilot areas to assist in defining the type and scope of data sets that would shed light on the determinants of unemployment in each community or neighbourhood.

8128 Canadian Geomatics Environmental Scan and Economic Value Study

On behalf of Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), HAL is undertaking a two-part study consisting of: (i) a Canadian Geomatics Environmental Scan; and (ii) a related Economic Value Study.
